How we calculate it
What you enter
- Width (m)
- Length (m)
- CD spacing (m)
- Hanger spacing (m)
What to watch out for
40 cm CD spacing and 90 cm hanger spacing is a typical ceiling under one board. Heavier loads need tighter spacing.
Formula
CD runs = ⌊ Width ÷ CD spacing ⌋ + 1
CD profiles = ⌈ CD runs × Length ÷ 4 ⌉
UD profiles = ⌈ 2 × (Width + Length) ÷ 3 ⌉
hangers = CD runs × (⌊ Length ÷ Hanger spacing ⌋ + 1)
fixings = ⌈ 2 × (Width + Length) ÷ 0.6 ⌉
boards = ⌈ Width × Length × 1.10 ÷ 2.4 ⌉

Frequently asked questions
How many profiles does a suspended ceiling take?
The CD carriers run at the spacing you set and the UD track goes round the walls. The calculator works out both from the ceiling size and gives whole profiles.
What hanger spacing should you use?
CD at 400 mm and hangers at 900 mm is a typical ceiling under board. Under a heavier load the spacings have to be closer.
