How we calculate it
What you enter
- Area (m²)
- Pack coverage (m²)
- Waste (%)
What to watch out for
A 5–7% allowance is enough for a straight layout. Large format, diagonal or brick-bond layouts need 10–15%. Buy from a single batch.
Formula
required = Area × (1 + Waste ÷ 100)
packs = ⌈ required ÷ Pack coverage ⌉
you buy = packs × Pack coverage
actual waste = (you buy − Area) ÷ you buy × 100%

Frequently asked questions
How many tiles do you need for 10 m²?
Add the waste allowance to the area and divide by the coverage of one box. The calculator rounds up to a whole box and shows how many square metres the purchase comes to.
How much waste should you allow for tiles?
5–7% for a straight layout, 10–15% for large format, diagonal or brick-bond. The calculator adds that percentage to the area before turning it into boxes.
